The Witcher 1 Map

The first Witcher game, released in 2007 and later as the Enhanced Edition, stays close to one city: Vizima, the capital of Temeria. After a prologue at Kaer Morhen, each chapter opens a new district or nearby area, from the farms outside the walls to the flooded ruins of Old Vizima.

Unlike The Witcher 3, there is no single open world. Each chapter has its own area map. This guide shows what each area holds and where it sits on the Continent.

  1. Prologue: Kaer Morhen

The witchers’ keep in Kaedwen, attacked by the Salamandra gang. A short tutorial area inside the fortress walls.

  2. Chapter I: Outskirts of Vizima

Farmland, an inn and a village outside the city walls, plagued by a beast and the Salamandra.

  3. Chapter II: Vizima Temple Quarter

The poorer district of the capital, with the hospital, the slums and the swamp cemetery beyond the walls.

  4. Chapter III: Vizima Trade Quarter

The wealthy merchant district, its taverns, noble houses and the politics of the Order of the Flaming Rose.

  5. Chapter IV: Murky Waters

A quiet lakeside village and the fields around it, hiding a story of its own.

  6. Chapter V: Old Vizima

The capital torn apart by riots, and the ruined, flooded old town beyond the dike.

  7. Epilogue

The royal castle of Vizima and the final confrontation on the frozen plains.

Where The Witcher 1 sits on the Continent

All of The Witcher 1 happens in Temeria, around Lake Vizima, with the prologue far to the east at Kaer Morhen.

Frequently asked questions

Does The Witcher 1 have an open world map?

No. Each chapter has its own area with a separate map, and you travel between them as the story moves on.

Can I go back to earlier areas?

Mostly no. Once a chapter ends, its area usually stays behind, so finish side quests before you move on.

Is Vizima in The Witcher 3 too?

Yes. The royal palace in Vizima appears in The Witcher 3 when Geralt meets Emperor Emhyr, and White Orchard lies nearby.
